Rosa Hotel

When Newcleus was approached by the Rosa Hotel, the project brief was to reimagine the rustic colonial-style hotel situated at Cameron Highlands as a modern contemporary hotel retaining elements of heritage and local flavour.

We studied the hotel’s existing conditions and proposed refreshed looks for the lobby, common areas, and 31 bedrooms. A separate building with a high-pitched roof was also introduced to direct the flow of residents to a larger restaurant with dedicated buffet and private barbecue facilities overlooking the hills of Cameron Highlands.

We paired traditional English design elements like decorative wrought iron and art deco carpet prints with contemporary furniture to create a refreshed look for the common areas. Broken stone pavement flooring flow into lobby and dining areas to enhance a semi-outdoor spatial experience where windows are opened to allow the natural cool breeze of the surroundings to enter.

Treating each bedroom type as a ‘Casa’ of its own, we wanted to retain the homey flavour each existing room type had while giving a contemporary touch. Local cane rattan finishes were paired with wall wainscotings and English greenhouse styled outdoor terraces. Existing cottage-style bedrooms overlooking a rear garden of flowers were enhanced with new wallpaper prints and roman blinds.
