Confessions of A Shopaholic

Tasked to design a Window Installation for local shoe and bag brand Christy Ng, the Newcleus team started off with the idea of arms reaching out — celebrating the impulsive need of a Shopaholic in purchasing everything beautiful she desires.

The team ideated on thick transparent acrylic arms, suspended by stainless steel cables and finished with geometric patterns and inked shading; made to look like expressive illustrations from a fashion sketch. The arms double up as hooks or placeholders for Christy Ng merchandise.

Upon passing by, customers will notice alphabets seemingly floating out of a vintage typewriter, rotating to form different names in front of a suspended canvas bag at set time intervals.

This kinetic and theatrical effect was conceived to express Christy Ng’s unique brand position in imprinting custom names on her merchandise. For this effect, Newcleus worked with local engineer Khayhen to prototype and develop a system of 3D-printed gears, coded arduino board, and light sensors — all hidden in a sculptural, coral podium strategically located underneath the typewriter.

Sculptural, colourful podiums cut from plywood and transparent acrylic sheets complete the display, creating floating shelves for merchandise display.
